Thanks for sharing your memories, which gave me a chuckle. I too was rather disappointed at L. Chatterley's Lover. I was in my teens when I finally found a copy in a second hand shop. I remember laughing at the gardener's dialogue concerning breasts and church bells. I seem to remember it was in a Yorkshire dialect. At the time I thought it sounded a bit like the old farmers in the James Herriot TV series.
